PCAB AccreditedUnique medications for a unique "you"

We are fortunate to have a wide variety of medications available to us in this country. Hundreds of highly talented scientists and research staff in our many pharmaceutical companies create and market life-saving medications. These medications, however, are not always exactly what you might require.

Your physician can work with Towncrest Pharmacy to help create medications formulated specifically for the issue you are experiencing. This might mean a change in dosage form (e.g. creating a liquid or topical medication where one is not available) or combining multiple medications together to make a unique medication. We can prepare medications that are free of dies or other ingredients (e.g. lactose, gluten, alcohol, nutrasweet etc) if you are sensitive to these ingredients. At Towncrest Pharmacy, we have the expertise to make these medications especially for you.

The origin of compounding

Compounding is the art and science of preparing customized medications for patients. It's origins dates back centuries, with modern compounding originating in the 1930's. Whereas today most medications are prepared by large manufacturing facilities and distributed through pharmacies, back in the 1930's over 50% of medications were compounded. Compounding has reemerged over that last two decades as pharmacists began to customize medications to meet specific patient needs. Today it is estimated that 1% of prescriptions are compounded by pharmacists working closely with physicians and patients.

Insurance and Compounded Medications

Because compounded medications are exempt by law from having a National Drug Code ID number, some insurance companies will not directly reimburse the compounding pharmacy. Towncrest Compounding therefore does not submit insurance claims on your behalf. We will, however, help you complete the necessary paperwork for you to submit the claim to your insurance. While you may be paying the pharmacy directly for a compounded prescription, most insurance plans will reimburse the patient for compounded medications when submitted in this manner.
